Responsible AI & Acceptable AI Use Policy

Last Updated: July 22, 2026

1. Overview

Terraform Academy incorporates AI-powered features to support cloud infrastructure learning, provide contextual assistance, and enhance the educational experience. These features are powered by large language models (LLMs) operated by third-party providers.

This Policy ("AI Policy") establishes the rules governing your use of those features. It exists to protect you, other users, and the integrity of the platform. We are committed to deploying AI responsibly and providing you with clear expectations about AI capabilities and limitations.

This AI Policy supplements — and does not replace — our Terms of Service. The Acceptable Use Policy within the Terms of Service continues to apply to all platform activity, including AI feature usage.

2. Scope — AI Features Covered

This Policy applies to all AI-powered features on Terraform Academy, including but not limited to:

This Policy applies regardless of how you access these features — via web browser, iOS app, Android app, Progressive Web App (PWA), or Discord Activity.

3. Acceptable Use — Prohibitions

You may not use, or facilitate or allow others to use, any AI feature on Terraform Academy:

3.1 Harmful & Illegal Use

3.2 Disinformation & Deception

3.3 Privacy Violations

3.4 Security & System Integrity

3.5 Off-Topic & Misuse

4. Responsible AI Requirements

4.1 Not for Consequential Decisions

AI features on Terraform Academy are designed exclusively for educational purposes within the cloud infrastructure and IaC learning context. They are not designed or appropriate for use in making consequential decisions, including but not limited to:

If you use AI features in contexts that may have significant real-world impact, you are responsible for implementing appropriate human oversight, independent verification, and use-case-specific safeguards.

4.2 Human Oversight

AI-generated outputs should always be reviewed by a qualified human before being relied upon in any production, commercial, or high-stakes environment. Do not deploy Terraform configurations, infrastructure designs, or security configurations generated by AI features without independent expert review.

4.3 Verification of Technical Accuracy

Terraform configurations, provider syntax, API references, and infrastructure patterns generated or suggested by AI features must be independently verified against official documentation from the relevant provider (HashiCorp, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, etc.) before use. AI outputs may reflect outdated information, contain errors, or omit important considerations.

5. AI Output Accuracy & Limitations

Important: AI-generated content on this platform is produced by machine learning models that generate predictions based on patterns in training data. Outputs are probabilistic and may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate for your specific use case.

5.1 No Guarantee of Accuracy

CoGen, LLC makes no representation or warranty, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or fitness for purpose of any AI-generated output. AI responses should be treated as a starting point for learning and exploration — not as authoritative technical documentation.

5.2 Live Data Features

Some AI features (such as TCv7 on the HashiCorp Hub) incorporate live data from third-party APIs including the HashiCorp Status API and Terraform Registry API. While we strive to display current data, the accuracy and availability of this data depends on third-party services outside our control. Live data may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable during outages.

5.3 Hallucinations & Errors

Large language models can produce "hallucinations" — confident-sounding responses that are factually incorrect. This includes plausible-sounding but non-existent resource names, provider arguments, version numbers, or API behaviors. Always verify any specific technical claim against official documentation.

5.4 Not Professional Advice

Nothing generated by any AI feature on this platform constitutes professional advice of any kind, including legal, financial, medical, security, or architectural advice. Always consult qualified professionals for matters with significant real-world consequences.

6. Data, Privacy & Third-Party AI Processing

6.1 Data Sent to AI Models

When you use an AI feature on this platform, your input (the text you type or submit) is sent to our backend API and then forwarded to a third-party AI model provider for processing. By using AI features, you acknowledge and consent to this processing.

6.2 OpenAI Processing

Our AI features are currently powered by OpenAI, LLC. Your inputs and the resulting AI responses are processed by OpenAI's infrastructure in accordance with OpenAI's Privacy Policy and Usage Policies. We access OpenAI models via API under OpenAI's enterprise API terms, which include data processing commitments.

6.3 Data Minimization & What We Do Not Send

Our AI system prompts and context injection are designed to provide AI features with platform data (such as live status information) without sending unnecessary personal information. However, any text you type into an AI input field is transmitted as part of your request. You should not include:

6.4 Chat History & Retention

AI conversations on this platform are not persistently stored on our servers. Chat messages within a session exist only in your browser's memory and are cleared when the session ends or the page is refreshed. However, requests are processed through our Cloudflare Worker infrastructure and may appear in standard access logs for security and debugging purposes, subject to standard log retention policies.

6.5 No Training on Your Inputs

We do not use your AI interaction inputs to train, fine-tune, or improve our own AI models. Our use of the OpenAI API is subject to OpenAI's data usage policies, which you can review at openai.com/policies/api-data-usage-policies.

6.6 Usage Limits & Tier Controls

AI feature usage is subject to daily limits based on your subscription tier (Free, Pro, MAX). These limits are stored locally in your browser using localStorage and reset daily. Usage counts are not synced to our servers.

7. User Responsibility

You and your end users are solely responsible for all decisions made, advice given, actions taken, and failures to take action based on your use of AI features on this platform. CoGen, LLC is not liable for any outcome resulting from reliance on AI-generated content.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of AI features complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and rules in your jurisdiction. This includes, but is not limited to:

If you are using Terraform Academy in an enterprise or organizational context and deploying AI-assisted configurations in production, you are solely responsible for validating outputs, obtaining appropriate authorizations, and ensuring compliance with your organization's policies.

8. Enforcement

CoGen, LLC reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this Policy and to take any action we deem appropriate, including:

We reserve the right to modify, limit, or discontinue AI features at any time without prior notice. Enforcement decisions are made at our sole discretion and are not subject to appeal.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this AI Policy from time to time as our AI features evolve, as new regulations come into effect, or as third-party AI providers update their own policies. Material changes will be communicated via platform notice or email. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Your continued use of AI features after any changes to this Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
